Another major focus for NEC in India has been public safety and safe city initiatives. Few of the projects in public safety and security have been Facial Recognition Solution (FRS) deployment for Surat city police, Vijaywada police, Lemon Tree Premier and Red Fox. We also deployed FRS solution at Vijaypushkarana – the prestigious religious festival in Andhra Pradesh for large scale crowd control and traffic management. NEC is also associated with the Karnataka State police since 2002, providing them NEC’s Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS), which has helped increase the conviction rate in the state remarkably. In terms of personal security, NEC offers Automatic Fingerprint Identification System solutions to the SCRB (State Crime Records Bureau) of three states. The technology helps the police collect, digitize and match criminal records faster.
NEC has global expertise in offering smart transportation solutions like BRT – Bus Rapid Transit, automatic vehicle location and identification, passenger information and automated fare collection system. We also have plans to expand these services Indian market. Apart from that, NEC will continue to contribute public safety solutions as a part of their safe city initiatives. NEC will also focus on expanding their carrier network business and enterprise business in India.

- What technologies and channel segments are you promptly addressing to in 2017?
As one of the key industry player, NEC aims to bring global-scale offerings to India creating safer and secure cities that augment social infrastructure by means of ICT. NEC India has been enabling Indian businesses and government with best-of-class IT solutions and technology, by offering a variety of solutions including the biometrics, fingerprinting technology for police and forensics departments in India.
Moving forward, NEC will continue to work with government agencies, educating them beyond cameras on softwares like facial recognition, intelligent tools and analytics. Our business domain covering entire ICT not only IT also have security and network, we have the entire portfolio to manage the safe cities. Moreover, NEC has more than 2000 resources for software and solution development in Bangalore and Chennai. NEC group has different subsidiaries for developing software and solutions around these new avenues.
- How do you intend to garner more market share in the channel networks?
Our core strategy in India has always been to build a strong network model offering technologies and solutions to consumers quicker, with an excellent service portfolio and setting the stage for new technologies with our business partners. We currently have distribution partners in IT, Retail and Telecom sectors. We are looking at expanding our partnership portfolio beyond that and extend it to government, transport and BFSI sectors as well.
- How do you predict the market conditions, technologies in 2017?
According to industry sources, the facial recognition market will primarily be driven by increased demand for surveillance systems by both civil and government agencies. We will continue to see more demand for this technology which is currently dominated by various industries such as government and utilities, military, retail security, banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI). It is seen that technology-driven trends will revolutionize how industry players innovate and offer solutions. Given the widespread understanding and the need for living in safer cities, game-changing technologies is already on the horizon. An integrated perspective on how these technologies will help develop the future. NEC will continue to pursue research and development of its technologies, aiming to provide it in other sectors such as retail and distribution, including department stores, supermarkets, convenience stores, e-commerce sites and point card systems.
