Sunil Bharti Mittal Joins World Bank Group’s Private Sector Investment Lab

Bharti Enterprises Chair to Contribute Expertise in Job Creation and Economic Development

The World Bank Group has announced the inclusion of Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chair of Bharti Enterprises, in the next phase of its Private Sector Investment Lab. This phase focuses on scaling proven solutions and enhancing job creation in developing economies, aligning with the Bank’s strategy to make employment a core driver of development.

The Lab’s key initiatives include regulatory and policy certainty, political risk insurance, foreign exchange risk, junior equity capital, and securitization. These efforts aim to attract long-term capital, boost investor confidence, deepen domestic capital markets, absorb early-stage risk, and unlock capital from institutional investors.

Sunil Bharti Mittal joins other new members, including Bill Anderson, CEO of Bayer AG; Aliko Dangote, President & CEO of Dangote Group; and Mark Hoplamazian, President & CEO of Hyatt Hotels Corporation. These leaders will bring their expertise in sectors critical to job creation, such as infrastructure, energy, agribusiness, healthcare, tourism, and manufacturing.

It’s central to our mandate.”

The Lab’s founding members included senior executives from AXA, BlackRock, HSBC, Macquarie, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Ninety One, Ping An Group, Royal Philips, Standard Bank, Standard Chartered, Sustainable Energy for All, Tata Sons, Temasek, and Three Cairns Group. The Lab is chaired by Shriti Vadera, Chair of Prudential plc.
