Collaboration with Red Hat aims to simplify VM workload management and cut virtualization costs by up to 50%

Pure Storage has unveiled Portworx® for KubeVirt, the industry’s first software-defined storage solution purpose-built for Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization Engine, during Red Hat Summit 2025. The launch marks a strategic milestone in making VM workloads more cost-efficient and operationally seamless on Kubernetes.

“Red Hat is the perfect partner for our mission as more companies look to go cloud-native.”

— Ajay Singh, Chief Product Officer, Pure Storage

Jointly developed with Red Hat, this new offering allows enterprises to run and manage VMs on Kubernetes with greater agility, enabling phased modernization while lowering TCO. Organizations using the integrated solution have reportedly achieved 30% to 50% cost savings over traditional virtualization setups.

“Many organizations still rely on virtualization as they gradually transition to containerized workloads,” said Ashesh Badani, SVP and Chief Product Officer at Red Hat. “Our collaboration with Pure Storage ensures customers get a simplified, cost-effective path to modern IT.”

Portworx for KubeVirt supports hybrid and multi-cloud environments, enabling enterprises to manage VM and container workloads across on-prem, cloud, or edge deployments—driving flexibility, innovation, and modernization at their own pace.
